Basketry and Beyond Festival

The Basketry and Beyond Festival, May 2013 will celebrate all aspects of basketry with a focus on the themes of Fishing, Farming and Fashion and. It will be held in the inspiring setting of Dartington Estate in South Devon.

The Basketry and Beyond festival weekend and supporting events will provide plenty of opportunities to be inspired and get active with the craft of basketry.

Spend the weekend discovering the art and the craft of basketry and the many, many varied ways to make a basket and the uses of basketry techniques; from housing bees to catching crabs.
Highlights include demonstrations of the craft by international craftspeople, a seminar session to discuss basketmaking in contemporary practice, a basket, craft and produce market, drop in workshops for children and adults and much more.

Get making
At the heart of the festival are numerous ways to learn about and have a go at making baskets.

A weekend packed with opportunities to get inspired and get actively involved with the craft of basketry. Basketmakers from all over the world including Japan, Germany and Denmark and the UK will be giving workshops.


Make sure to spend some time in the Basket Tree room where the focus will be on making a piece of wearable basketry that can be worn in the Light Fantastic Parade, at the same time gaining some experience of basketry techniques and a feel for weaving various materials.   More information here
